Get rid of those tough Printer Clogs
There are two ways to deal with Printer Clogs. One is to get rid of them and the other is not to let them happen.
- Measures to prevent printer clogs: With a computer
inkjet printer,
a printer head is the nozzle
that places the ink on the printer. You basically need to keep the nozzle
from drying out. Here are a two important tips:
- Do not remove an
ink cartridge from the printer without replacing another one in
its place. Exposing the nozzle to air for more than a few minutes will
not only choke but totally spoil your print head. So keep the used cartridge on till you have a new
cartridge in hand to replace.
- Place your printers in
friendly surroundings. Let there be no dust. For that matter even keep
your unfinished cartridges in plastic bags. Maintain humidity levels
between 20% - 80%.
However still if white lines occur when printing, ink just
doesn't flow out during printing, the printer is used after a long time, or broken
lines occur in the nozzle check pattern ---- you know you have a
printer clog.
- Measures to cure printer clogs: A
print head cleaning cycle is
an in-built utility in your printer, to deal with this type of problem.
This involves sending out strong "print" directions to your
printer, while creating a small vacuum from below in an effort to suck out
the clogged ink from the print head.
However frustration creeps in while
dealing with intractable printer clogs.
You can either get hold of one of the various specific cleaners available in
the market for this purpose or for a handy alternative try ammonia.
Place the clogged cartridge in about 50/50% solution of ammonia and hot
distilled water for a few hours. When ink starts to slowly leak out take the
cartridge out of the water and dry it using a soft cloth to "Q-tip."
Then place it back in your printer and run the print head cleaning utility that comes with your printer software.
You may have to run this 3-5 times before printing quality is re-established.
For
printer models
where print head unit is positioned
inside your inkjet printer, first remove the
inkjet cartridge , and then pour some
cleanser into the top of the print head
and some into the print head resting seat.
If this
does not work try 100% ammonia up to 1 hour and then clean thoroughly with
distilled water. Still not satisfied wait for a day and re-check sometimes
ammonia takes time to show results..
